One Size Fits All? Handling Public Health and Environmental Risks in French Whistleblowing Legislation

Abstract French whistleblower legislation establishes a unified legal regime for the treatment of reports and protection whistleblowers. Drawing on law, recently amended by transposition Directive 2019/1937 23 October 2019, this article examines whether specific features whistleblowing in relation to public health environmental risks are adequately addressed regime. The identifies four key factors effective handling relating environment: (1) possibility protecting whistleblowers who report facts gathered outside workplace; (2) persons as whistleblowers; (3) carrying out in-depth investigations characterise reality reported; (4) archiving order detect weak signals over long term.
